“The production Saleen S331 Sport Truck offers a new level of sophistication to the truck world. For 2007, both Saleen S331 Sport Truck models are available as a Super Cab and feature a 331 CID (5.4L), 3-valve SOHC V-8 engine with a four-speed automatic transmission. The supercharged model packs a punch at 450 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, which is due in part to the patented, high-flow Saleen Series VI integrated twin-screw supercharger, while the 3-Valve offers 325 hp with 380 lb-ft of torque. For increased cooling, an aluminum dual-core radiator and high-flow cooling system are also available as options on either model.

Saleen has taken the same technology and design used to develop the proven Saleen Series VI Integrated Twin-Screw Supercharger that has been immortalized on the Saleen S281, and reengineered it to deliver maximum results for the S331.

Unlike other bulky superchargers, the Saleen Series VI Supercharger is sleek in design, lightweight and highly efficient, producing less friction on the engine due to added cooling elements and the presence of the twin screw blower assembly. This patented, innovative design allows the supercharger to turn slower for equivalent boost, producing lower stress and air charge temperatures.
To increase maximum gas mileage for daily driving, the Saleen Series VI Supercharger features an integrated bypass valve that only produces boost when reaching higher RPMs. This feature also creates more torque and better low-end drivability.

Every thought has gone into taking the Saleen S331 Sport Trucks’ performance to the extreme. Both the 3-Valve and Supercharged trucks are equipped with a unique integrated Saleen exhaust system with twin-side pipes, which produce a unique appearance that enhances power, performance and sound. Because of the increased horsepower and distinguishable Saleen sound, the engineers at Saleen have affectionately nicknamed the truck, “Thunder.”

Designed to raise handling capabilities to new levels, the Saleen S331 is equipped with the Saleen Racecraft suspension. The front systems include N2 struts with linear-rate coil-over springs, a tubular anti-roll stabilizing bar and urethane pivot bushings throughout. Because it’s all about performance, calibrations are specifically set to a high-performance level.
The rear Saleen Racecraft suspension consists of a live axle, leaf springs and N2 shocks. The overall Saleen suspension system reduces load transfer which improves handling under braking and hard cornering.

Saleen styling is complete with forged seven-spoke, one-piece 23” Saleen wheels on highperformance BFGoodrich KDW 305/40 series tires. For responsive braking, the Saleen S331 Sport Truck comes equipped with power assisted four-wheel ABS brakes with 13” front and 13.7” rear vented discs. Optional 15” slotted and vented discs with Saleen ABS six-piston calipers are also available for increased stopping power.

Saleen S331 Sport Truck buyers will be happy to know that it’s built to comfortably tow up to 7,000 lbs with a payload of 1350 lbs. Unlike most performance trucks, the Saleen S331 Sport Truck acts as a powerful and stylish complement to boats, campers, trailers, or anything else that requires a hitch.

Saleen S331 Sport Trucks are designed with many of the same styling cues as the Saleen S7 super car. The R series also came as a limited edition ‘+’ the most common being the R420+ with 100 being sold across Europe. This came with a newer opti-cruise gearbox with a trial gear ratio. It also came with an added microwave from the dealer. It’s believed the sales were mainly in Sweden, but as many as 10 per country elsewhere.

The company was founded as Freightliner Inc in 1942 and is now a division of Daimler Trucks North America, a subsidiary of the German Daimler AG. The company is known mainly for the heavy duty class 8 diesel trucks it produces, as well as classes 5-7 trucks.

As of 2005, Freightliner is the largest manufacturer of heavy duty trucks in North America with annual revenue of over $32 billion (2012 est.) and over 24,000 employees (including Detroit Diesel). Because Freightliner LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler, a non-American corporation, it is not included in Fortune 500 rankings. It is comparable to the 125th largest company in those rankings based on the criteria used.

On April 2, 2007, the Strike Committee of United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 3520 called for a strike at the Freightliner Trucks’ assembly plant in Cleveland, North Carolina. This strike lasted only one day, but because the UAW declared the strike unofficial, it was considered a wildcat strike action, resulting in the firing of 700 employees.

Nearly all these were at length allowed back to work, six remained terminated for about a week, but five (known as the “Cleveland Five” or “Freightliner Five”) remain terminated.

Also in 2007, Freightliner laid off 800 US workers from its Portland, Oregon plant, relocating manufacturing work to a new multimillion-dollar plant in Mexico. However, plans to close the plant completely were dropped in September 2009, and it remained open to produce military vehicles and Westernstar Truck’s.

After DaimlerChrysler sold the Chrysler division and changed its name to Daimler AG in 2007, it was announced Freightliner LLC would be renamed to Daimler Trucks North America, LLC on January 7, 2008.
Today, Freightliner remains active in heavy-duty trucks, and in commercial vehicles in classes 5 through 8 in North America. It leads the diesel Class A recreational vehicle chassis and walk-in van markets.

Its Detroit Diesel and Mercedes-Benz engine offerings are also industry leaders. The Freightliner badge also adorns the Sprinter, a Class 2 van produced by Mercedes-Benz in Europe and marketed through Freightliner dealers, as well as through Chrysler dealers as a Dodge-branded offering.

Tesla Motors is supplying battery packs for Freightliner’s Custom Chassis Electric Van On January 12, 2012, Freightliner announced plans to hire 1200 second-shift workers by the end of the year at its Cleveland plant, the company’s largest U.S. truck plant, with nearly 500 employees. Most of those would be people who were laid off when the second shift was dropped in 2009.

The reason was increased demand for Cascadia trucks, of which twice as many would be made by October 2012. One-fifth of the plant’s output, which also included Columbia and Argosy went to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. By September only 550 of the workers had returned to the plant, and 173 others not recalled had lost their seniority.

There are many models this truck company has launched. The main ones being Cascadia and Coronado.

MAN made a radical departure from conventional truck design. Its slim shape, projecting wheel arches and soft, smooth lines gave it a sensational cD value of around 0.3. This was a value that modern passenger cars achieved! With a correspondingly modified semi-trailer, the Concept S saved 25 percent of the fuel used by a conventionally equipped 40-tonne road train – and 25 percent less fuel means 25 percent less CO2.

Efficiency potential this big can only be realised by aerodynamics similar to that of passenger cars. This makes the tractor longer and while the semi-trailer also lengthens, it becomes lower and narrower towards the rear. In order to achieve this cD value with the same cargo volume, a Concept S tractor plus semi-trailer would have to be around 20 metres long. Current laws and regulations permit tractor/semi-trailer combinations of up to 16.50 metres and articulated trains of up to 18.75 metres in length.

With its Concept S, MAN wants to make a contribution to the current discussion on the statutory length restrictions applying to commercial vehicles in Europe. If such aerodynamic road trains are actually going to take to the road, these restrictions will have to be eased. However, the Concept S isn’t higher, heavier or wider than today’s trucks, so bridges, tunnels and underpasses are not a problem at all.

The exceptionally good drag coefficient of the Concept S is achieved by applying the various laws of physics that govern aerodynamics. The truck’s frame and components such as the two fuel tanks, for example, are integrated into the external bodywork design, where they help to guide the flow of air past the truck. The external mirrors have also been highly refined, consisting of cameras built into the small, wing-like mounts for the side indicator units to monitor the traffic behind. The electrically adjustable roof spoiler that could adjust itself automatically to the semi-trailer is also one of the study’s design features.

The engineers and product development team noticed an increase in interest and sales of day cab trucks, as well as an increased number of one-driver trucks, and set out to optimize the design around the premise of a single driver. Consequently, the Revolution Innovation does not have a full door on the passenger side, but rather a cargo compartment hatch. A full-size access door at the rear of the cab allows the driver to enter and exit from the rear of the cab, after taking care of trailer hook-ups or other duties related to load carrying. That could be good, but what if the driver is not a Mr. Lonely?

Also conspicuously absent from the exterior of the Revolution Innovation are traditional rear-view mirrors. In their place, video cameras project a rear-view image into the interior of the truck. What if they get screwed up somewhere and stop showing what lies behind?

A grille opening significantly smaller and lower than traditional trucks required the engineers to mount the radiator and cooling system lower. The interior cooling system for the truck was also rethought, with the AC condenser repositioned mid-chassis with a side air intake, with electric fans operating the system at idle or slow speeds.

And to reduce driveline losses, the truck is equipped with the Detroit Long Haul Tandem rear axle. This design de-clutches the rear axle at highway speeds, allowing it to operate as a tag axle. If the truck detects a loss of traction, it immediately re-engages the rear axle for maximum traction when needed.

The Revolution Innovation will be at industry events and customer venues throughout 2012. We do not like where this is going. Not at all.

Sorry designer guys, you have totally missed the point of what a truck is. It’s not a car that can be continually normalized to it’s nearest common denominator. Trucks have a attitude partly derived from classic looks. Any case, one door ? what about in an emergency that would require the driver to exit the passenger side?

In building the ‘Mean Green’, which was revealed by Volvo Trucks yesterday at the Mid-America Trucking Show, Volvo’s team of hybrid technology experts adapted Volvo’s hybrid driveline to the chassis requirements of a world-class truck built for speed. Engineers then outfitted ‘Mean Green’ with a highly-tuned Volvo D16 engine and a modified version of Volvo’s automated I-Shift gearbox, which interacts with the hybrid’s electric motor.

In total, Mean Green pumps out a massive 2,100 horsepower and nearly 5,000 lb-ft (6779 Nm) of torque – of which 200 horsepower and 885 lb-ft (1200 Nm) of torque come from the electric motor. Aerodynamics also plays a vital role in achieving top speed, so Volvo designers selected a North American VN cab and sculpted the optimal aerodynamic shape for the truck.

Mean Green features modified versions of the following Volvo production components:Volvo hybrid motor, Volvo hybrid battery, Volvo D16 diesel engine, Volvo I-Shift automated manual transmission, Volvo VN cab and frame and Rear axle with 1.85:1 ratio.

Big Red is a Monster Fire Truck which is taken out to different events to raise money for Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine, as well as other local kids charities

The mission is to raise money for Camp Sunshine, and other local kids charities.

The 1937 International fire truck is a 100% operational fire aparatus with 350 gallons of on board water. Big Red was originally in service with the Danville, Ky. Fire Dept. Measuring nearly 40 ft in length, 12 ft 4 in wide and 11 ft 9 and 1/2 inches tall, this “Big Red Monster” weighs in at 35,000 lbs. Unlike most other retired fire engines however, this one was turned into a monster truck powered by Cummins Diesel Engines.
General Information.

Big Red is owned by Shaw Brothers Construction in Gorham, Maine. Glenn Meehan is the man behind the wheel when Big Red is out doing parades or involved in different events. He has driven Big Red all over the State of Maine for many types of events.
