The trucks have won the Dakar Rally a record ten times. KAMAZ is the largest truck producer in Russia and the CIS. The factory produces 93,600 trucks a year (260 trucks a day).

Reinforced KAMAZ trucks are used by the Russian army.

In 1969, the Central Committee of the CPSU and Ministerial council of the USSR decided to begin construction of factories for the manufacture of supersized cars in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny. Construction actually began on 13 December 1969, but the first Kamaz rolled off the main assembly conveyor on 16 February 1976.
In 1987, the line for the manufacture of Oka midget cars (VAZ-1111) was created. The first car rolled out on 21 December 1987.

On 25 June 1990, the production association was transformed into an open joint-stock company.
On 14 April 1993, a fire destroyed the Kamaz engine factory. In 1995, KamAZ embarked on a major company-wide restructuring project involving Western partners such as Cummins and Deloitte & Touche. Until 2005, Kamaz had a major share in ZMA (Factory of Micro-displacement Cars) that produces the Oka microcar. It was sold to the Severstal group.

Kamaz vehicles have won the truck category of the Dakar Rally an 11 wins as of 2013.[3] 14 out of 14 2010 Dakar Rally stages in the truck category were won by Kamaz trucks.

Yet the Qatar Team’s Spanish driver had already filed a complaint which would result in his table partner being stripped of both the stage 2 win and the overall lead! The race officials decided to deduct the time he’d spent looking for a waypoint which hadn’t been “validated” by a malfunctioning GPS, leaving Sainz to lead the field on its way to Nazca.

The Matador’s streak was cut short by electrical problems which forced him to stop several times and cost him roughly half an hour, but Nasser Al-Attiyah took over and kept the Qatar party going. The Qatari started in seventh place and went on to overtake all those in front of him except for Peterhansel. It was a great day at the office for Al-Attiyah, who climbed from seventh to second overall.

It’ll be harder for Robby Gordon to bounce back, but the American cut his deficit from 55′ in Pisco to 46′ in Nazca. The other big winner was Stéphane Peterhansel, who reclaimed the overall lead he thought to have conquered yesterday.

But don’t expect the X-Raid team to be all smiles tonight. While their captain was filling the bill, Krzysztof Holowczyc crashed 39 km into the special. His Mini jumped over a dune and had a rough landing which hurt the Polish driver’s back and ribs. His co-driver Felipe Palmeiro emerged unscathed.

Only one driver has managed a hat-trick of wins in this year’s Dakar, and it’s none other than Gerard de Rooy. The Dutch truck driver’s flawless performance inspired teammate Miki Biasion to a third place finish.

It also was the first time in the 2013 Dakar that the Kamaz team managed to put one of its trucks in the Top 3. Eduard Nikolaev only lost 1:24 minutes today and now lies 21:44 behind the defending champion in the overall classification.

Carlos Sainz and Timo Gottschalk were retroactively recognised as the winners of the second stage after a problem with Global Positioning System satellites used by rally organisers meant that the timing system did not register their passing a waypoint on the stage, and they lost twenty minutes trying to pass the marker.

The Dakar Rally is a supreme human exploit and a 15-day challenge which takes drivers across some of the world’s most stunning deserts. Both a motor race and an orienteering challenge, the Dakar Rally pits some of the world’s greatest long-distance rally drivers against amateur competitors for whom the race is often the culmination of their dreams and who come to take up the challenge with their motorcycles, quads, cars and trucks. In the long-distance rally discipline, endurance prevails and the slightest mistake costing dearly. Like the mountains or the oceans, the wide open spaces inspire “the adventurers”. Entering the Dakar is, in a certain way, like climbing Everest, sailing round the globe or rowing round the world. The discovery of Peru thrilled everybody who reached this stage of the rally in 2012. This time, all the riders, drivers and crews will be able to test their mettle on the largest chains of dunes crossed on the continent since 2009. The Dakar has never before started in the middle of the desert in its history. Whilst the dosage of difficulties will decide just how and when the pressure rises, there will be no room for improvisation in 2013.

Once it crosses the Andes Mountains, after a first visit to Chile, the rally will encounter a different face of South America: one that guarantees a broad range of terrains which smile primarily upon flexibility. In Argentina, the capacity to adapt will be vital to switch from one type of riding and driving to another and between different methods of managing the race. Although the ration of sand will be less dense, the visit to Gaucho country will nevertheless finish with a major test in which only genuine experts in desert riding and driving will be at ease.

Two distinct sequences will be played out in Chile and each of them will be decisive. The return to the Atacama corresponds with the phase of the Dakar where competitors navigate in the domain of extreme endurance. As a challenge of ultimate resistance, the sessions in the dunes will continue up to the day before the finish. Before reaching Santiago, the competitors will have to tame difficulties of the highest order right up to the end.

Back in 2004, I was hired by DC to work on, of all things, a Justice League/NASCAR comic book. NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series had a few JL-themed cars on the circuit that year, and the comic was a free giveaway at the races. The story involved the Justice League teaming up with various NASCAR drivers to defeat the Injustice Gang.

It was a ridiculous concept, but I enjoyed drawing villains that I’d never had the opportunity to draw while working on Justice League Adventures. Plus, I was able to work alongside inker-extraordinaire, Dan Davis, and reunite with my pal and former Batman: Gotham Adventures partner, Scott Peterson.

This double-page spread ended the issue, and unfortunately, it’s the only color piece I have on file.

I dedicate this to NASCAR fans who to be honest have a very interesting sport to watch, and I also adore how they drive now (you know, two cars packed together and the car behind will gain more speed because it has less wind resistance therefore has the force to push the car in front).
I’ll have to excuse some details such as the number (it has been used by a real driver), and the sponsors (the real cars have A LOT of sponsors). Also that “Top Gear” logo might be weird because although there IS Top Gear US, the show is more british than american, this is because I got the inspiration to draw this after watching Top Gear UK episode when Richard Hammond went to USA and drives one of the car.

With styling inspired by Matech’s GT1 racecar, prototypes of the GT3-S (white) and GT1-S (silver) were introduced at the annual Ford GT rally at NOLA Motorsports.

Three engines will be available for the GT1-S, starting with a 600 hp (447 kW) unit, followed by a 5.4-liter with 760 hp (567 kW) and a twin-turbo 1000 hp (746 kW). Limited to 20 turnkey cars, all will have full interior packages with Alcantara and carbon fiber trim.

The GT3-S will be more of a conversion offered for current GT owners, a fully engineered tuning package available in various configurations.

RH Motorsports liked the look of the Matech GT1 so much, they bought all of the company’s molds, engineering and complete bodywork for its GT3 race car. With that already-developed knowledge, RH plans to manufacture 20 turnkey, street legal GT1-S cars.

Prototypes of the GT3-S (white in photo above) and GT1-S (silver) were rolled out recently at the annual Ford GT rally at NOLA Motorsports.

The RH crew is teaming up with GT Guy LLC for the build. They will start with a run-of-the-mill(?!) Ford GT and widen the front track four inches. Buyers of the GT1-S will be treated to carbon fiber and Alcantara inside and will have a choice of three engines underhood. If 600 horsepower is enough, the first option is your choice. His style in the beginning was mostly realistic and he would draw exact copies of the original. But later he started adding his ideas of strips pf paint in the drawings to add his personal touch. His favorite visual artists are Don Packwood and Nicholas Watts.

You will hardly find the contemporary cars in his drawings, mostly his art consists of cars with racing pedigree ranging back to the later half of 80′s and 90′s.
