The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is a compact, 2-door mid-engine sports car that will offer the discerning driver of the highest standards a new choice, delivering a rare combination of heritage, design, performance and exclusivity.

Designed by Victor R. Muller, Chief Executive Officer of Spyker N.V., the Spyker B6 Venator Concept makes a defiantly contemporary statement whilst paying homage to its past, making it instantly recognizable as a Spyker. Highly detailed design, bespoke materials and aviation-inspired elements are a core part of the Spyker DNA. With the announcement of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept, the company once again proves its Latin axiom: “Nulla tenaci invia est via” – “For the tenacious no road is impassable.”

The name “Venator” is Latin as well, meaning “Hunter” – a nod back to Spyker’s “Hunter” fighter aircraft of the early 20th century.

The Spyker B6 Venator Concept will begin production in early 2014 for key markets including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the US in autumn 2014.

The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is being shown for the first time at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show alongside the Spyker C8 Aileron that was first introduced at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show. The design of the Spyker C8 Aileron represented another significant step in the evolution of Spyker, shifting from propeller to turbine inspired design.

The introduction of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept marks the beginning of a new era for the brand, one that will include a significant increase in production led by a management team that has never been stronger. Together, Muller and Walton are leading a passionate team that is supremely dedicated to creating unique and beautiful high- performance sports luxury cars.

Exterior highlights

The trademark radiator grille’s mesh is V-shaped, referencing Spyker models of the previous century. The 1903 Spyker logo harkens back to an era when Spyker built racers such as the amazing 60HP.
The aerodynamically shaped glass aircraft canopy extends rearwards to minimize drag, optimizing performance.
The 3D LED rear lights are akin to the iris-type after burners of a jet engine from a modern fighter aircraft.
The brake light has been sculpted into the rear panel design to ensure smooth, flowing design lines.
Elegantly aggressive 19″ TurbofanTM wheels are shown in mirror polish finish.
Interior highlights

Interior surroundings crafted from the finest materials are unusually open and airy for a sports car, the light and glass akin to an aeroplane cockpit. The leather is sourced from the Litano range produced by the Royal Hulshof Dutch Tanneries in Lichtenvoorde. Hulshof uses only West European first choice bull hides and a special tanning process that produces the beautifully rich colour palette.

The red cover on the ignition switch evokes the spirit of starting an aeroplane, as does the dashboard that lights up as part of the ‘pre-flight check.’ The dashboard is shown with a turned aluminium fascia, similar to those seen on Spykers of the 1920s.

Pressing the engine start button brings to life a powerful V6 engine that delivers 375+ bhp.
The trademark exposed gear change mechanism was inspired by early aircraft controls from Spyker’s aviation heritage.

The Volvo V40 Pirelli by Heico Sportiv rides on 8×19 VOLUTION VII wheels shod in 235/35 R19 P Zeros. Here’s something you don’t see every day: a tuning company releasing a special edition model in honor of one of its partners. In this case, the tuner is Heico Sportiv, the partner is Pirelli and the car, the new Volvo V40 compact hatchback.
Heico Sportiv said it created the V40 Pirelli Edition on the occasion of Pirelli’s 50 years in Germany and 110 years of tireworks in Breuberg, where the Italian tire-maker has a factory. Heico Sportiv and Pirelli have been partners since 2009.

The V40 Pirelli Edition is finished in black with contrasting red stripes running under the doors and the front apron, and Pirelli badges, with Heico Sportiv adding a front spoiler and a diffusor-look rear skirt with new quad tailpipes. The hatch rides on a 30mm lowered suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels that are (unsurprisingly, of course) wrapped in 235/35R19 Pirelli P Zeros.

The same two-tone color theme continues inside with red seams on the sport steering wheel, gear-shift and hand brake handle, while other upgrades include the piano-black speedometer casing and central console, and the velour floor mats with embossed tire-tread profiles.

While the Heico Sportiv package for the Pirelli special edition model can be optionally combined with other engine and fitting configurations, this particular model uses the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that has been tuned to boost output from the stock 148hp (150PS) and 240Nm (177 lb-ft) to 197hp (200PS) and 300Nm (221 lb-ft).

As a result, the V40 T3 Pirelli Edition completes the standard 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 7.9 seconds and tops out at 230km/h (143mph), instead of 8.8 seconds and 210km/h (136mph).

Maximum-width front wings, plus disproportionately narrow rear wings, plus stepped noses equals some decidedly unattractive cars.

“The undoubted ugliness of 90% of the 2012 F1 cars just means it’s more of a challenge to make them look good in pictures,” lamented photographer Darren Heath on Twitter recently.

Happily the FIA is planning to tweak the rules in the future: reducing the height of the front bulkhead to do away with the steps, and reducing the width of the front wings.

So how could the improved generation of 2012 cars look? It’s over to graphic designer Jeremy Hancox who’s already posted some excellent designs in the forum. First up Jeremy tackles one of the least attractive cars on the grid. Ferrari told us the F2012 would look pretty when it won a race. It turns out they were wrong – what it really needs is a break from those restrictive 2012 rules.

Note that these designs don’t obey the proposed new technical rules to the letter – they’re just intended to show how the current cars would look if the key offending passages of the rules were tweaked.

In short: narrower front wings, lower and wider rear wings, and no stepped noses. Jeremy also turned his attention to some of the cars’ liveries – have a look at these three re-skinned racers:

Jeremy Hancox produced three brilliant alternative F1 livery designs for F1 Fanatic last year. They proved very popular and now he has created a new batch of four images showing how some of F1′s most memorable liveries from past seasons could look on today’s cars.

Eddie Jordan’s first F1 car was an elegant creation crafted by Gary Anderson. It also had the benefit of an attractive green and blue livery. The green colour was a good match for the Irish team but it came about principally through their association with 7Up. Jordan made the soft drinks brand a sponsorship target due to its strong sales in Ireland.

Jordan intended to make his pitch to 7Up’s executives in London with the assistance of Bertrand Gachot. But come the crunch meeting in February the driver was nowhere to be found. Jordan secured the deal but the reason for Gachot’s absence didn’t emerge until later in the year.

He had become involved in a row with a taxi driver on Hyde Park corner and was arrested. Later in the year he was sentenced to prison, beginning the sequence of events that led Michael Schumacher to make his Grand Prix debut. Securing 7Up’s backing was a coup for a Jordan but it created a problem as another potential sponsor, Kodak, did not want their yellow branding to appear on a green car. Unperturbed, Jordan headed for Japan and concluded a deal with their green-coloured rivals Fuji.

The Toleman TG184 will forever be associated with one race – the rain-lashed 1984 Monaco Grand Prix which a young Ayrton Senna looked set to win before it was red-flagged.

The car’s livery, painted in deference to Italian sponsors Candy (domestic appliances) and Segafredo (coffee) was revised later in the season to include a splash of red, as reflected in Jeremey’s design above. After that shock second place at Monaco in only his fifth start, Senna took the TG184 to further podium finishes at Brands Hatch and Estoril.

With sponsorship from big names like Mastercard and Pennzoil, Lola’s return to F1 in 1997 looked credible. Unfortunately the car their logos were plastered onto didn’t amount to much. at the team’s debut in Melbourne Formula 3000 champion Vincenzo Sospiri was five seconds off the next slowest car in qualifying. Ricardo Rosset, who’d finished runner-up to him in 1995, was a further second off the pace, and both were outside the 107% cut-off time.

Nor were their sponsorship arrangements as lucrative as they seemed, and the team folded before the second race of the season. Nice looking car, though.

You won’t learn much more about its 420-horsepower, twin-turbo V6 but you can hear how it growls in the rain, and you can get a better idea of how you’ll look in the driver’s seat giving it a workout.

The 2014 CTS is different than the current model. “We were compromising, we were a little bigger, a little heavier than we needed to be in the entry line,” said Francavilla, referring to the 2013 CTS. “Now we have more differentiation and we can focus on being more competitive.”

The sedan will also have the Cadillac Twin-Turbo engine and the eight-speed automatic transition. Francavilla he said the 2014 can target the higher level of luxury with the model. “It’s significantly different than today’s CTS.” There are about 1,500 employees working with the Lansing plant.

The new Cadillac CTS made a splash in New York. It’s classy. And it’s got legit, walk-the-walk muscle thanks to the new twin-turbo V6. But the new CTS means it’s almost time to say goodbye CTS Coupe, which is aging well, especially in ridiculous CTS-V trim.

So naturally, it’s time to place the cart solidly before the horse and ruminate on how the new CTS would look with two fewer doors.

Thanks to Theo Chin, we have something to look at. And it’s good. A no-brainer, even. The resurgence of the personal luxury coupe at Cadillac shouldn’t summarily end now. Not when they’ve already whetted the appetite. This with the 420-horsepower turbo? Yes, please.

Coupes are cool. They always have been. Here’s hoping the new CTS spawns another one.

All the changes we have seen were limited to minor exterior updates, new wheels and a few extra ponies under the hood. Today the guys over D2Forged applied the same treatment and improved the look of the CTS-V with a new set of wheels.

We are talking about a new set of wheels in 11 spoke design featuring unique detail fluting and an aggressive, sporty aesthetic. The wheels measure 21×9.5 at the front and 21×11 at the rear, with classic step lip configuration preventing the center from looking too large.

The new wheels were combined with titanium brushed center and hi-polished lip finishing and the perfect Caddy wheel is complete!

D2Forged flits between shoeing exotic European metal such as Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin, and American muscle, such as the Corvette Z06 and this, their latest project, based on the Cadillac CTS-V Sedan.

The US-based wheel-maker is showcasing a set of its 21-inch FMS-11 alloys, boasting a multispoke design with 11 spokes and unique fluting detail. A classic step lip configuration stops the centers from overpowering the look, while the wheels are finished with a titanium brushed center and polished lip.

The XK8 was the first 8-cylinder vehicle produced by Jaguar, when the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine was introduced.
The second generation XK was launched in 2006.

The new XK introduced an aluminium monocoque bodyshell, and is available both as a two-door coupé and two-door cabriolet/convertible, with just the engine and associated mechanicals being carried forward.

The XK8 was launched in 1996 to replace the XJ-S. Two body styles were produced – a coupé and a convertible. The car was the first in the Jaguar line-up to use Jaguar’s newly developed V8 engine – the AJ-V8. In 1998 the supercharged XKR was added to the range.

The completely new Ian Callum designed XK was unveiled in 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show. Ian claims that the inspiration for the shape of the new XK came from his admiration for British actress Kate Winslet’s curves.[1] The XKR has an unlimited top speed of 174 mph, the standard XK has an unlimited top speed of 158 mph. The faster XKR-S model was added in 2012. The XKR-S gained an additional 40 horsepower over the XKR which brought the 0-60 mph time down to only 4.4 seconds and the top speed up to 300 km/h. A convertible version of the XKR-S has also been released.

Keeping a vehicle fresh and relevant over a long model cycle is one of any automaker’s toughest tasks. There are basically two schools of thought on how to do it: a steady parade of trim-and-tape special editions (Lexus SC 430 Pebble Beach Edition, anyone?) or the more capital-intensive high-performance route. To riff on Neil Young, “Is it better to do a burnout, or fade away?” Jaguar appears to have the answer in the form of two black stripes on the pavement: the 2012 XKR-S.

The current XK has been around since late 2005, and while its classic grand tourer proportions still look remarkably fresh, it’s hardly a spring chicken. Jaguar could have settled on a few special paint finishes, a new wheel pattern and maybe some showy leather stitching to see this coupe into its dotage, but instead, it’s lavished a surprising amount of attention on this rakish two door.

The most substantial change is an SSC-designed, 1-piece billet aluminum engine block. A milestone for the limited-production automobile manufacturer, the new block improves structural integrity and oiling capabilities allowing SSC to boost the power output to 1287 horsepower while improving durability.

Armed with the more powerful new engine, the ’09 Ultimate Aero will be able to reach world-record speeds of 270 MPH, raising the benchmark for supercars and pushing the limits of current production car technology. In order to accommodate the ’09 Ultimate Aero’s unique fuel system requirements, SSC turned to American company Aeromotive to develop a flawless system. The aggressive nose is redesigned with enhanced aerodynamics to accommodate the 2009 Ultimate Aero’s higher top speed, and carbon fiber louvers on the side intakes draw in an additional 20% of air into the radiators for improved cooling.

The improvement in overall performance will widen the already sizeable gap between the Ultimate Aero and its competitors. The ’09 Ultimate Aero also introduces the AeroBrakeTM a rear spoiler system that deploys under braking situations. Finished in carbon fiber, the rear spoilers actuate up an additional 8″ when the brake pedal is depressed. The speed of the spoiler actuation is set by the amount of brake pedal pressure.

The complete AeroBrakeTM system can be disabled by the push of a button, for town driving or situations where braking and downforce assistance are not necessary.

Rounding out the ’09 Ultimate Aero’s improvements is a revamped interior. A redesigned dash prominently displays sleek, exposed carbon fiber dash halves and inset air vents.

Carbon fiber accents run along the doorsills, surround the new gauge cluster, and continue onto a revised steering column, which includes an analog speedometer and tachometer with a sequential shift light integrated into the tachometer needle. The new center console incorporates a digital temperature control unit and tire pressure monitor along with an Azentek PC base Infotainment unit. The revolutionary Azentek unit offers all the capabilities of a PC and processes SSC’s onboard diagnostic software.

We respectfully disagree. We believe driving is exhilarating. Just watch any child on a go-cart and the joy is plain to see. And when you can soar along at top speed, knowing the only oil in the car is in the transmission, the only emissions are the songs from the radio, the ride becomes more enjoyable still.

Electric cars equal freedom. Not simply from oil reliance, but from dependence on any specific power source. Electric power can be generated from natural gas, coal, solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear sources — or a combination of all of them — without changing the design of the car. No matter how or when the world changes, the car adapts, making it immune from obsolescence.

We foresee a day when all cars run on electric power and when people will struggle to remember a time when a love of driving came with a side order of guilt.

Up until now, if you wanted a car with amazing gas mileage, you’d pick something like the leading hybrid; but when you pressed down the gas pedal to zip up a freeway on-ramp, you’d likely be a little disappointed — it takes over 10 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. On the other hand, if you demanded the 0 to 60 times of a $300,000 supercar, you’d wind up with an embarrassing 9 miles to the gallon in the city.

When you build a car that’s electric, you start with one built-in advantage: Electric cars just don’t have to be as complex mechanically as the car you’re probably driving now. Sophisticated electronics and software take the place of the pounds and pounds of machinery required to introduce a spark and ignite the fuel that powers an internal combustion engine.

For example, the typical four-cylinder engine of a conventional car comprises over a hundred moving parts. By comparison, the motor of the Tesla Roadster has just one: the rotor. So there’s less weight to drive around and fewer parts that could break or wear down over time.

But the comparison doesn’t end with the counting of moving parts. The engine and transmission of a conventional car also need lubricating oils, filters, coolant, clutches, spark plugs and wires, a PCV valve, oxygen sensors, a timing belt, a fan belt, a water pump and hoses, a catalytic converter, and a muffler — all items requiring service, and all items that aren’t needed in an electric car.

The Tesla Roadster’s battery pack — the car’s “fuel tank” — represents the biggest innovation in the Tesla Roadster and is one of the largest and most advanced battery packs in the world. We’ve combined basic proven lithium ion battery technology with our own unique battery pack design to provide multiple layers of safety. It’s light, durable, recyclable, and it is capable of delivering enough power to accelerate the Tesla Roadster from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Meanwhile, the battery stores enough energy for the vehicle to travel more about 245 miles (EPA city/highway) without recharging, something no other production electric vehicle in history can claim.

But more important than the motor’s size or weight is its efficency. Without proper efficiency, a motor will convert electrical energy into heat instead of rotational energy. So we designed our motor to have efficiencies of 85 to 95 percent; this way the precious stored energy of the battery pack ends up propelling you down the road instead of just heating up the trunk.

Our transmission couples the fuel efficiency of a manual with the driving ease of an automatic. The Tesla Roadster has only two forward gears, allowing you to fine-tune your driving experience (but either gear will work for most driving scenarios). Unlike a manual transmission, the car will not stall if you have it in the wrong gear. There’s also no clutch pedal. Just move the lever and the electronic control module takes care of the shift, so you can launch from a full stop to freeway speed without taking your focus off the road, your foot off the accelerator, or your hands off the wheel.

Most of the subsystems in the Tesla Roadster are completely electronic and under direct software control. But unlike all other cars, these systems are not a hodge-podge of independent systems — instead, they are designed as an integrated system, the way complex network and computer systems are designed today.
